The AHLE-X  Food & Beverage Professional Development Programme, is run in Cape Town, South Africa over a one-week period. The programme is designed to:

  • inspire you through exploration and experience;

  • equip you with Management and Leadership skills through seminars delivered by key industry speakers;

  • experience wine and brandy tasing in the Cape Winelands, dinners at 3 top restaurants and a whiskey and coffee educational;

  • provide you an opportunity to work alongside Food & Beverage managers in industry for four days in a top 4 or 5 star hotel (optional additional 4 days).

The AHLE-X programme has been designed for middle to senior managers that work in the Hospitality Industry that desire to gain more insight into Food & Beverage operations in a City that is the tourist capital of South Africa. The programme is recommended for (but not limited to) the following roles:

  • General Managers

  • Food and Beverage Managers

  • Restaurant Managers

The following programme outline provides you with an overview of the one-week professional development programme that you will follow whilst in Cape Town:

On arrival

You will be collected from the airport and transported to your accommodation.

Week one

You will attend seminars on topics that are pertinent to Food & Beverage Leaders in the 21st Century in Africa:

  • Strategic Food & Beverage Management

  • Making social media work for your restaurant

  • Creating the visual appeal for customers

  • Managing customer service

  • Marine Stewardship Council on Sustainable Fish Resources and SASSI

Week two

(Optional Extra at an additional cost of R1100.00 per day)

You will be hosted for 4 days in a 4 or 5 star hotel in Cape Town working alongside Food & Beverage Managers from that hotel.

You will be transported to and from work to your accommodation for the duration of your industry placement.

Excursions

As part of your programme, you will experience:

  • a whiskey tasting at the 5* Cape Grace Hotel, at the Cape Town Waterfront, who have a selection of over 3000 whiskeys
  • experience a wine and brandy tour by a Wine Master in the famous Cape Winelands. Here you will experience wine and brandy production, tasting and enjoying a food and wine paring experience
  • a high tea at the well-known Twelve Apostles Hotel & Spa
  • a coffee educational at Origin Coffee Roasting where you will learn about coffee and coffee making
  • visit 'The Biscuit Mill', a well known food market in Cape Town
  • dining at 3of Cape Town's well known restaurants; Greenhouse at The Cellars Hohenort Hotel, Myoga Restaurant and Gold Restaurant.

Lunches and dinners

Lunch will be provided daily except on the last day of your programme

Dinner will be provided on 3 evenings of the programme.

Facilitators

During your stay your programme will be managed by hands-on facilitators who have hospitality and training management  experience. You will be accompanied on all field trips and they will be at-hand to assist you with whatever you need during your stay in Cape Town.

Feedback and reflection sessions

As part of your programme you will attend one feedback and reflection sessions where group members have an opportunity to network, share experiences and reflect on their learning.

Departure

You will be transported from your hotel back to the airport at the end of your two-week experience.

  • Airport shuttles to and from your accommodation

  • Your attendance at all seminars

  • Transport to and from your industry placement/seminars to your accommodation

What is not included

  • Your accommodation

  • Your flights

  • Lunches and dinners on your day off if you decide to stay for an industry placement

  • Dinners during the week on evenings off

  • Your industry placement arrangements at an additional cost

  • Your personal entertainment

  • Transport unrelated to programme activities

Programme cost

The cost of the programme is R16900.00 payable as follows:

  • 30% non-refundable deposit which is payable upon registration

  • The balance is payable 30 days prior to the start of the programme

  • Please note that should you wish to book the industry placement portion then this will cost an additional R1100.00 per day which will be charged accordingly.

Accommodation, flights, meals and spending money

Accommodation

Accommodation has purposely not been included as delegates may work for Hotel Groups that operate in Cape Town and hence can source reasonable accommodation.

AHLE-X has negotiated discounted rates for delegates, to find out more please click here for further information. 

Flights

Flight bookings also need to be made and paid for directly by the delegate.

Spending money

During the programme you have one day off and there are evenings where you are free and need to cater for dinner on your own. It is estimated that you will need an additional R2000.00 for meals during the programme. If staying for the additional 4 days of industyr placement, you will have one day off and you will need to cater for your own needs on this day. You may also wish to bring additional spending money to take additional tours, visit tourist attractions or shop!
