AHLE-X is a Cape Town based training provider to the Hospitality Industry that runs short courses, management development and executive development programmes facilitating development pathways from skills to executive level. The AHLE-X learning programmes are specifically designed to enhance the participants learning experience, allowing them to expand their knowledge, skills and attitudes, explore new concepts and ideas in creative and unique ways and to immerse themselves in the learning experience.

Meet the team

Lacia Gess

Lacia Gess is actively involved in the Interior Design and Décor Industry in Cape Town.  For the past 12 years, Lacia has owned and run her own Interior Design and Decorating company, Home to Home Interiors. Understanding the need to provide networking opportunities for the Interior Design Industry, Lacia founded and runs Lifestyle Tours, a company that offers fun, educational tours into the creative industry as well as the Design, Construction and Interiors Network, a group of industry professionals who discuss opportunities and trends.

Lacia is a mentor for the Cape Craft and Design Institute, has given trends forecasts and is MC for the popular Plascon Trends Talks held throughout the year in Cape Town.

Lacia believes in connecting people with opportunities and strives to achieve this through various initiatives including the AHLE-X programmes.

Susan Walker

Susan started out her career in the hospitality industry in the 90’s as an intern at the Royal Hotel in Durban when it was a member of The Leading Hotels of the World. Susan worked in a variety of hospitality establishments in South Africa and the UK.

After a unique experience in London working in temporary jobs for Ricky Garvais and Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber  she returned to South Africa to work as a facilitator for institutions offering Hospitality Management Diplomas.

While working for The International Hotel School she worked on projects for Deloites in conjunction with the Botswana Department of Tourism. Secured, facilitated and managed the Sun International account nationally providing them with training for their staff in Certificate and Diploma Courses. Other clients included Sanparks and Sanbona Wildlife Reserve. She also managed the students Experiential Learning experience in industry.

Susan has always had a passion for Africa and has travelled extensively.

Tana Breytenbach

Tana has been involved in the Hospitality Industry for over 25 years in hotel operations, HR and people development. The hospitality industry is her passion!

Tana has worked as HR Manager for various top hotels such as Fancourt Hotel and Country Club Estate and the Mount Nelson Hotel. Tana’s last position, until 2011, was Group Development Manager for the Petousis Group situated at the Vineyard Hotel & Spa. Tana has also owned and successfully managed her own guest house and restaurant on the Garden Route.

For the past 14 years, Tana has focused her energy on people and organisational development, studying further in adult education and thereafter spending a number of years teaching, developing learning programmes, and building organisational capacity through people. Tana is a qualified educator of adults, skills development facilitator, assessor and moderator. She consults to industry about people development.

Cynthia Mkhize (Tour Guide)

Greetings! Cynthia Mkhize is my name and I am a Registered Tourist Guide for the Western Cape. My motto is: “I pick you up….I drop you off later…with no time constraints”.  So join me for a day of general happiness where anything goes.

Cynthia did a 1-year Events Management course at the former Cape Technikon (CPUT) in 2007. Cynthia is also an IT Consultant and has been in the industry since 1980.

Cynthia has strong inter-personal skills, her greatest strength is in people interaction. Cynthia is a very outgoing person and has lots of patience when it comes to dealing with people from all walks of life. Cynthia is adaptable and adventurous and has a happy disposition with a strong sense of humour and fun.

Cynthia will introduce you to Cape Town, its culture and what Cape Town has to offer.
